Last October, Stuart ran the Cardiff Half Marathon for Barnardo’s and raised a whopping £467!

Why did you choose to join Team Barnardo’s?

I chose to fundraise for Team Barnardo’s because it’s a great charity and the thought of helping just a little makes me feel good. I do believe in the cause and if the money that I raised improved just one child’s life, it was well worth doing.

What was it like taking part in an event for Barnardo’s?

Having the Barnardo’s cheer point along the course gave me that extra bit of energy to keep going and come in with a new PB. I think running for a great charity like Barnardo’s gave the race some extra meaning, which spurred me on to perform the best that I could.

Would you support Barnardo’s again?

Would I support Barnardo’s again? Most definitely would, it’s a great cause and would encourage anyone thinking of running for a charity to choose Barnardo’s.

How did you fundraise to meet your target?

I met my fundraising target by creating social media presence of the event and friends and family donated on the JustGiving page I set up. I also had a sponsor form in my work’s canteen and my colleagues kindly donated with offline donations. On race week, I thought it would be a good idea to create a sweepstake in work, where my colleagues guessed my finishing time and the closest guess would win a good percentage of the pot.

Do you have any tips for other Barnardo’s supporters who are considering signing up for a long distance challenge?

The advice and tips I have for anyone considering signing up for a long distance challenge is to prepare well beforehand. I had only taken up running in February and I trained a minimum of three times a week. My main tips would be to relax your body and most of all enjoy yourself.
