Rachel’s story

Cardiff Half Marathon
Fundraising target: £200
Fundraising total: £546

Why did you choose to join Team Barnardo’s?

I joined the Barnardo’s team because I have always worked with children both in the work place and as a volunteer with Girlguidinguk. I also have four children of my own and a grandson. I believe every child should have the best start and be able to live a happy and fulfilling life. Barnardo’s helps those children who need extra support that their own families struggle to provide throughout their childhood and adolescence.

What was it like taking part in an event for Barnardo’s?

Barnardo’s were a great charity to fundraise for with regular contact, and a lovely thank you letter received this week. They also shared training plans, which helped me prepare for the Cardiff Half Marathon along with lots of regular advice to help with fundraising!

Would you support Barnardo’s again?

I would be happy to support Barnardo’s again.

How did you fundraise to meet your target?

I fundraised by being sponsored to run The Cardiff Half Marathon, I took sponsor forms with me everywhere I went and shared my JustGiving page with friends and family on Facebook and via email. I boosted my fundraising with a Tea and Cake afternoon, raffle and bake sale, raising over £500.

Do you have any tips for other Barnardo’s supporters taking on a similar challenge?

If you are not a regular runner make sure you buy a pair of new trainers, properly fitted from a reputable sports shop that will see you through the training and the challenge. Always warm up and cool down and tell people what you plan to do; it will help to make sure you go through with it!

Sign up and stack up your miles with every swim, cycle and run this June.
